Western Edge Youth Arts is a non-profit
organisation established to provide positive arts and performance
experiences to young people from different cultural and social
backgrounds living in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Projects are
managed in community contexts and in schools projects.

communicative power of artwork and performance, works with young people
to enhance their artistic, communicative and problem solving skills.

socially. As they grow in respect for themselves and others, they
become ambassadors for a socially just and harmonious society.
We value the empowerment of all
young people, particularly those facing social and cultural
marginalisation, through
Access to quality arts experiences
The creation of artistic works that have an authentic
youth voice
With commitment to

Positions Vacant - Community Projects
Seeking an ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR and an ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
Two exciting opportunities exist for skilled, motivated young artists, who will be instrumental in the collaborative development of a new performance work to be shown as part of the Big West Festival in November 2009.
- Frolic explores culturally diverse partying practices in a site-specific celebration that combines performance, audience interaction and general festivity. The piece operates as an adventure trail, with performance and spectacle drawing audiences through the space. Travelling through each section of the party, we journey around the world, experiencing aspects of celebratory events from all corners of the globe that can be found in Melbourne’s urban sprawl. Presented as part of the Big West Festival in November 2009, Frolic is a platform for diverse street based youth culture and traditional cultures found in Melbourne’s West to merge in an exciting, charged, theatrical celebratory event.
- Working with young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Frolic will draw on research and personal experience of celebration in all its guises.
- The associate director and associate producer will work collaboratively with the Western Edge’s artistic director in communities, Cymbeline Buhler, working closely on all elements of the project’s development.
This position is open to emerging artists 25 years and under. For more information and application guidelines, please contact Cymbeline Ph 9362 0046, or cymbeline@westernedge.org.au
