Forum: Shakespeare, Mythology and New Approaches to Shakespeare
This forum examined Western Edge’s recent work in Mythology, drama and literacy and Shakespeare and Contemporary Meanings. The forum was well-attended by teachers, University lecturers, arts educators and students and emerging artists from across the sector. The highlight of the event was the contribution from four young people – three current students of Debney Park SC and Abraham Herasan of the Flemington Theatre Group. Jane Rafe presented her recent innovative work linking literacy to the use of classical literature and process drama in primary schools and Dave Kelman talked about the growing body of Western Edge practice in the innovative use of Shakespeare and how it can lead to high quality community performance. This exciting forum was part of Western Edge’s on-going work to build new dialogues about praxis and build a community of practitioners committed to quality arts education in the West. If you’d like to be part of the on-going dialogue contact dave@westernedge.org.au.
